ABOUT TPDC

Introduction

Under the provisions of Section 6(2)(g) of the Technologists and Technicians Act 2015 (Act 768), which states that “The Board may establish councils to assess the quality assurance of programs in the field of technology,” the Malaysia Board of Technologists (MBOT) has established the Technology and Technical Professional Development Council (TPDC).

The TPDC aims to ensure quality assurance for Professional Development Certification and Professional Technical Certification in the fields of technology and technical. This initiative aligns with the National Policy on Science, Technology, and Innovation 2021-2030 to enhance the efficiency and professionalism of human capital in science, technology, and innovation in the country.

TPDC Members

The TPDC is composed of members from various key sectors to ensure comprehensive and effective representation. These include representatives from ministries or government agencies, industries comprising technologists and technicians, academicians who are also technologists or technicians, as well as learned societies, NGOs, and related organisations associated with technologists and technicians. This diverse membership ensures that the TPDC benefits from a wide range of expertise and perspectives to support its mission.
Function of TPDC

The TPDC has the following functions:

  1. Professional Development Certification
    Evaluate the quality assurance of short courses to ensure high-quality training is developed and delivered.
  2. Professional Technical Certification
    Recognition for skills programs through Professional Technical Certification.
  3. Approved Training Provider
    Advising the Board on programs offered by Training Providers in efforts to enhance the quality of training provided.

About TPDS

Introduction

The Technology and Technical Professional Development Secretariat (TPDS) is the secretariat responsible for carrying out the functions of the Technology and Technical Professional Development Council (TPDC) under the Malaysia Board of Technologists (MBOT). Established to support the vision of developing a skilled and professional workforce, TPDS ensures the smooth implementation of TPDC’s strategic initiatives, particularly in overseeing the certification and accreditation of training programmes in technology and technical fields.

TPDS is responsible for managing the following functions:

  1. Managing application processes for the approval of Professional Development Certification and Professional Technical Certification submitted by training providers and Pusat Bertauliah.
  2. Liaising with training providers and other organizations on relevant guidelines and approval procedures.
  3. Preparing reports and analyses of received applications for monitoring and improvement purposes.
  4. Conducting training sessions and workshops for training providers and assessment panels on certification applications and evaluations.

Additionally, TPDS manages the quality assurance process and collaborates with stakeholders such as government agencies, industries, and academic institutions. The secretariat ensures that accredited programmes meet industry requirements and align with national policies on science, technology, and innovation.

By supporting TPDC’s mission, TPDS plays a vital role in advancing Malaysia’s technology and technical workforce, contributing to the country’s long-term growth as a technology-driven economy.
