The Technologists and Technicians Act 2015 (Act 768), under Clause 6(2)(g), empowers the establishment of councils to oversee quality assurance for programmes in the field of technology. In line with this mandate, MBOT has formed the Technology and Technical Accreditation Council (TTAC), which functions as the Accreditation Technical Committee in collaboration with the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) to accredit technology and technical education programmes. TTAC is composed of representatives from the government, academic institutions, and private sectors, ensuring a balanced and comprehensive approach to accreditation.

Provisional Accreditation serves as a “candidacy assessment” to evaluate the robustness of the proposed curriculum and the readiness of its delivery support system before the programme is offered to the public. It is granted for a specific validity period, during which the programme must undergo a Full Accreditation exercise before the expiry date.
Full Accreditation follows the completion of Provisional Accreditation and involves a comprehensive assessment visit. This process certifies that the diploma or degree awarded to graduates meets the standards set by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA). The Board of Directors (BOD) of MBOT determines the accreditation validity period, which can be up to six years, based on the programme’s academic quality. This period is decided using the accreditation rubric recommended by TTAC MBOT.
Extending Accreditation focuses on compliance with conditions set by TTAC MBOT for programmes already granted Full Accreditation. It allows for an extension of the accreditation period within the same cycle, depending on compliance with specified conditions. For programmes initially accredited for five years, Education Providers may apply to extend the accreditation by an additional year to complete the Full Accreditation cycle.
Continuing Accreditation is designed for programmes with an accreditation period of 1-4 years. It ensures compliance with TTAC MBOT’s requirements and enables Education Providers to apply for additional years of accreditation to complete the Full Accreditation cycle. The decision is based on the programme’s adherence to the conditions outlined in the previous accreditation evaluation.
If a programme fails to meet the quality standards established by TTAC MBOT, Education Providers may be granted deferment, allowing them to reapply for accreditation with TTAC MBOT’s approval. Re-application documents must be submitted directly to TTAC MBOT, and failure to comply may lead to rejection or revocation of accreditation. Providers may appeal any such decision to MBOT’s independent Appeal Committee, which will propose recommendations to the MBOT BOD for a final decision.
Curriculum review is a systematic and periodic process of enhancing an academic programme to maintain flexibility, dynamism, and relevance to current needs. A well-designed curriculum equips students to face future challenges effectively, ensuring alignment with evolving industry and academic standards.
